One of the biggest things that players of all ages, not just the young ones, get wrong is thinking that you can just pick up a baseball and start throwing to get warmed up.
This is for lazy players who like hurting their arm.
But that’s not you.
Before you ever pick up a baseball, we need to get the body fired up. So here’s a few things I recommend doing before you pick up the rock.
1. Soft Tissue Work (Roll Out)
2. Dynamic Warmup
3. Arm Care Prep
A couple pro tips before you start this routine.
1st, if you currently don’t have a routine like this, doing everything all at once will likely be too much stimulus and too fatiguing. It will become more of a workout then a warmup. If that’s the case, just cut some of it down to where you’re feeling really great before picking up a ball and then you can add in more once your body gets used to doing it.
2nd, on the soft tissue work, don’t try to just aggressively smash your hot spots but you also don’t want to just run away from the pain. Your body is kind of like an onion when it comes to massage. We need to work a layer at a time so when you go too hard, too quick, your body will seize up & protect itself. Always focus on your breathing and allow your pressure to go deeper the more you breathe into each spot.
